URBAN STAGES is looking for new plays

web site

Our current production, My Occasion of Sin, came to us through our Words By Women Reading Series. Now we, at Urban Stages, are looking for more submissions and this time we’re accepting plays for a slew of READING SERIES! Here’s the list:

TEN-MINUTE FESTIVAL:
We’re now accepting any and all ten-minute plays for a reading festival at our theatre late summer/early fall. We pay special attention to innovative plays that touch on social issues in the current public sphere and we require all plays to have small casts (4 or less characters).

ASIAN-AMERICAN FULL-LENGTH PLAYS:
We’re putting together a reading series that shines light on some of the modern-day concerns and values of the Asian-American community. We’re also seeking to provide a platform for Asian-American playwrights. Full-length plays only. 7 characters or less. Minimal sets, if possible.

WORDS BY WOMEN:
Off the success of My Occasion of Sin, we are again putting together a Words by Women reading series. This means we’re accepting full-length plays (7 characters or less, minimal sets if possible) by female playwrights on all topics (but again special attention is given to plays that touch on current social issues.)

All submissions must be sent via mail (sorry, no email):

Urban Stages
555 Eighth Avenue, RM 1800
New York, NY 10018

Please include a self-address stamp envelope (a small one for a response letter or a large one with appropriate postage if you would like us to return your play – otherwise scripts will be recycled.)

All submissions must be postmarked by May 4th, 2012.
Please write either Ten-Minute, AA Plays or Words by Women on your envelope…otherwise submissions will go in our general submission pile. There is no submission fee.

It usually takes two to six months for us to read and process your script. We ask that you do not call or email our offices to inquire on the status of your play.
