Michigan State University Department of Theatre presents: New Play Commission

web site

The MSU Department of Theatre is searching to produce the world premiere of a full-length play.  The work should address the theme of “The Changing Face of Global Culture in the 21st Century”.  The play should address issues of race, ethnicity, migration and exile, globalization, and/or cultural identity.  Plays dealing with issues of gender, class, sexuality, language, and technology are also encouraged.  The script to be produced will be chosen by a committee consisting of both undergraduates and graduate students.  Works that have received readings, staged readings, or workshop productions will be considered.  However, scripts that have already received full productions will not.

Playwrights (both represented and unrepresented) should send a full electronic version of their script to:
MSUPlayCommission2012@gmail.com
The script should be in .doc, .docx, .pdf, or .rtf format, in English.

The deadline for script submission is September 28, 2012.

Please allow two months for processing.  The final selection will be made and the playwright will be contacted by November 7.  This new play will be produced as part of the Department’s 2012-13 Season: March 19-24, 2013.  The chosen playwright will receive a $500 commission with possibility of a multiple-day paid residency.
