ANNUAL SHORT PLAY COMPETITION: THINK FAST

GUIDELINES

The Theater Project’s annual short play competition awards the winner for Best Play a $500 prize. The contest is open to adult playwrights in the New Jersey and New York metropolitan area. There is no fee to submit your play for consideration. Performances will be in February, 2016.

Deadline for submissions are November 19, 2015. All performances will be at The Burgdorff Center for the Performing Arts in Maplewood, NJ in February 19-21, 2016.

Plays can be either dramas or comedies but must be no more than 15 minutes running time. This restriction is absolute and plays that exceed 15 minutes will not be considered. Sets, lighting and sound requirements must be simple. No elaborate props or effects. Playwrights invited to participate must have plays that are ready-to-perform and supply their own actors and directors. Those selected for participation will be charged a $200 fee to cover expenses (venue, stage manager, lighting/sound director).


HOW TO SUBMIT

Electronic submissions only. No fee to submit.

E-mail your short play to:
OneActFest@TheTheaterProject.org
Include in the Subject line: “Submission + The Title of Your Play.”

Email submissions must contain this sentence in the body of the email:
“If my play is accepted and I choose to take part in the festival, I understand that I will be responsible for the casting and rehearsal of my play and that I will be charged a $200 participation fee.”


Submission Deadline: November 19, 2015 

IF YOUR PLAY IS SELECTED
​The Theater Project will supply the venue, a stage manager and a lighting/sound director.

Individual productions supply the actors, directors and make their own agreements with actors/directors regarding compensation.

​Playwrights will be charge a $200 fee to cover production expenses for venue, stage manager

JUDGING

Plays selected advance through the opening rounds with two (2) performances:
Friday, February 19 and
​Saturday, February 20, 2016.

Those plays selected by audience vote will advance to the Sunday, February 21 final performance and compete for a $500 Critics Choice grand prize.

Patrons will also participate by voting for an Audience Favorite award.
