great weather for MEDIA seeks poetry, flash fiction, short stories, dramatic monologues, and creative nonfiction for our annual print anthology.

Our focus is on the fearless, the unpredictable, and experimental but we do not have a set theme for our anthologies.

**We highly recommend reading one of our stunning previous collections to see the type of work we love. Let us know in your cover letter how you found us, and any feedback on what we have done so far. We are based in New York City and welcome submissions from national and international writers. 2016 Act One: One Act Festival

The Act One : One Act Festival is now accepting plays for its 3rd annual. The Secret Theatre seeks to promote new work and emerging playwrights through our annual One Act Festival. We also promote playwrights through publishing anthologies of the winning plays; all of the final plays including the festival winner are offered a non-exclusive publishing agreement! We have currently published five volumes of short plays.

No fee to submit or produce.

19th Annual Black Box New Play Festival

The Gallery Players, Brooklyn’s premier, award-winning Off-Off Broadway theatre, is seeking plays for its 18th Annual Black Box New Play Festival to be held in June, 2016. Each play selected will be given a Black Box production at Gallery Players and will be performed in a festival format with non-equity actors. Playwrights must be available for rehearsals and use this as an opportunity to continue work on their play. We are particularly interested in shorter pieces.

Submission guidelines:

1. Plays must be un-produced (readings are o.k.)

2. Seeking shorter plays from 10-40 minutes. No full-lengths please.

3. Playwrights may not direct their own work.

Metropolitan Playhouse, New York's OBIE Award-winning explorer of America's Theatrical Heritage, is currently accepting submissions for new plays inspired by the life and history of New York's Lower East Side. 
 
Submissions will be evaluated by Metropolitan's artistic staff, and we will produce up to 10 of the submitted plays in April 2016, as part of our 7th Annual East Village Theater Festival.

Subject - Very Important:

Please DO NOT submit plays that do not conform to this simple guideline. We are eager not to waste your--and our--time.

Plays must pertain specifically, though not necessarily exclusively, to the East Village and Lower East Side of Manhattan. Plays that do not in some way illuminate life and/or conditions in that neighborhood--past, present or future--will not be considered. The subject or theme may well pertain to other places as well, but they must be quite specifically applicable to the East Village/Lower East Side.

As a secondary consideration, and as in prior years, the plays selected will pertain to a chosen theme. For Volume 12, plays should respond to Hope as it relates to life in the East Village of today and in eras past. (See below for more information.)

The Festival
East Village Chronicles, Vol. 12 is the 12th seasonal festival of new, one-act plays that celebrate and explore the varied history and eclectic culture that have defined Manhattan's Lower East Side (in all its permutations). Combined into two, distinct evenings of short plays, which run on alternating nights over three weeks, the presentations will include a variety of styles and tones, unified by their being clearly related to life in the theater's neighborhood.

Metropolitan Playhouse will produce the plays on our 3/4 thrust stage in our 51 seat theater at 220 E 4th Street.

The plays will be directed by directors engaged by Metropolitan to coordinate and rehearse the entire festival.

The plays will be performed by a core company of actors, cast specifically for the festival, each of whom will perform in at least two festival plays. The cast of any given play will be drawn from this core company, and therefore anyone cast must be suitable for more than one play. Because we are forming a company, while playwrights' input is highly desired, final decisions remain with Metropolitan's artistic staff.
The Theme for 2016: Hope

The Chronicles plays have been connected each year in that they have focused on a certain topic, theme, or timeline. Selecting plays that are inspired by some such organizing principle helps to give the festival shape and to enrich the experience for audience members. (See * below for further discussion of the theme idea.)

This year, the Chronicles will be devoted to Hope. We believe this theme is especially resonant within the context of our national conversation and the particular history and character of the neighborhood. In our neighborhood, particularly with its history of immigration and challenges to mainstream lifestyle, every day life has long been grounded in aspiration, even while just as many ambitions are dashed as realized.

  • Playwrights are encouraged to respond directly, indirectly, and creatively to this idea; how the plays relate to the notion of "Hope" is up to the playwright.

  • We are seeking plays of no more than 30 minutes that can be played by 5 or fewer actors.
  • The plays will be presented with at least three others in a given evening, and as a consequence, should not require elaborate set or properties.

Dear Playwright,

You are invited to submit an original 10-minute play to Urban Stages’ THE PRESIDENT PLAYS, a new opportunity under the auspices of Urban Stages’ Development Program.

THE PRESIDENT PLAYS challenges your creativity to write an original play using a “president” or “presidency” as the springboard, subject or theme. Think outside the box! ANY elected or appointed official can be featured, from a U.S. president to a chief officer of an institution to the president of the International Scrabble Club! Or find inspiration from a famous myth, speech or motto (“I cannot tell a lie” – “Yes we can!” – “Ask not what your country can do for you…”). We are seeking plays written in any style that reveal a fresh plot, sufficient conflict and a running time of 10 minutes, maximum. Plays are due at midnight on January 10. The first 60 submissions will be considered for programming. Selected plays will be presented as a staged reading at Urban Stages’ 74-seat theatre located at 259 West 30th Street in Manhattan. Performances will be Sunday, February 21 @ 2:00 & 5:00. Are you ready? Here are the guidelines. Please read carefully!

SCRIPT GUIDELINES:
  • The springboard, subject or theme for your play must be a president or presidency. 
  • Write for a cast of 2-3 actors. 
  • We strongly encourage scripts that can be staged without relying on stage directions. If stage directions are necessary, please keep them to a minimum. 
  • Your script will be presented as a staged reading in accordance with AEA guidelines. Keep production values to a minimum. Standard set pieces will be available. Costumes are at the discretion of the director and the willing cooperation of the actors. No hand props can be used. Remember, less is more! 
  • Plays should be in standard script format: 12 point font, 1” margins on all sides, and character names on a separate line. Be sure to number all pages. 
  • Submit scripts in MS-Word - preferred - or PDF format. 
  • Scripts longer than 10 pages – title and character breakdown pages are not counted – will NOT be considered. Regardless of the number of pages, the running time MUST be no more than 10 minutes! 
  • You may only submit one script for consideration. 
  • Playwrights must attend both performances of the staged reading on February 21. 
  • We encourage you to attend rehearsals, if possible. The schedule will be determined later. 
  • The deadline for script submission is midnight, January 10
We strongly encourage original scripts developed for this presentation. Do not submit a play that has been previously produced.

GENERAL GUIDELINES:
Urban Stages presents the play. We provide the actors, directors, stage manager, rehearsal space and the theatre (located at 259 West 30th Street).
ALL participants are donating their time and talent. There is no fee or cost to the playwright. There is a ‘pay-what-you-will donation’ for audience members to attend the staged readings.
Each playwright and director will attend the staged readings of their script in designated seating.
Every play gets two performances on the same day.

Premiere Stages seeks plays

Premiere Stages is committed to supporting emerging and regional playwrights by developing and producing new plays. Through our Play Festival script competition, Premiere Stages offers developmental opportunities to four playwrights. We provide playwrights with an encouraging and focused environment in which they can develop their work through discussions, rehearsals, sit-down readings, staged readings, and full Equity productions.

Beginning October 1, 2015 through January 3, 2016, Premiere Stages will accept submissions of unproduced new plays from playwrights born or currently residing in the greater metropolitan area (New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, and Pennsylvania). There is no fee to enter. All plays submitted to the festival are evaluated by a professional panel of theatre producers, dramaturgs, playwrights, scholars and publishers.

Four of the submitted plays will be selected for staged readings with Equity casts in March 2016 and awarded cash prizes. Following the March readings, the winner of Play Festival is selected for a full production during Premiere Stages’ 2016 main stage season and awarded $2000; a second play will be selected for a 29-hour Staged Reading and be awarded $750, and the two other finalist writers will be awarded $500.

At Premiere Stages, we pride ourselves on a uniquely accelerated process in which plays we find particularly promising are developed and fully produced within a year of submission. In many professional theatres the time span between meeting a writer, staging a reading and producing the play can be years. At Premiere Stages, immediately following the Spring Readings, two plays enter an intensive development phase. Playwrights work with a director, dramaturg, and design team to develop the play for a staged workshop or full production only a few months later. When we find a writer we believe in, our Play Festival process allows Premiere Stages to fully commit the time, talent, and resources necessary to share their work with a broad regional audience.

Premiere Stages’ productions offer playwrights the chance to see their work fully realized on stage. We hope, however, that the plays developed at Premiere will go on to subsequent productions throughout the country. Because of this, playwrights whose scripts we produce retain the coveted “World Premiere” brand on their plays. Premiere Stages also strives to facilitate relationships between playwrights and other theatre professionals who we think will respond to their work. Plays are consistently reviewed by the New York Times and scouted by major publishing houses. Multiple Festival plays have been honored by the American Theatre Critics Association.

Premiere Stages will accept full scripts from literary agents or theatre professionals familiar with our work. All other writers are required to submit a 10-page script sample and synopsis. Please review full submission requirements and guidelines below.


Submission Guidelines

A note about submissions: Premiere Stages seeks to support a diverse group of writers. We are particularly interested in scripts that explore or address contemporary issues and tackle topics that challenge and connect with our audience. We encourage writers to view our production history (http://www.kean.edu/premierestages/play.asp) for a better understanding of the type of scripts that we have produced in the past.

● Plays must be full-length and have a cast size of no more than eight.

● Plays submitted must be unpublished and must be works that have not been previously produced (readings, workshops, showcases are okay).

● Plays must be written by playwrights who were born or reside in the greater metropolitan area (New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, and Pennsylvania).

● Musical submissions, adaptations, and solo shows will not be considered at this time.

● Submissions are limited to one script per playwright.

● Electronic submissions (preferred) are due by 11:59pm on January 3, 2016. Hard copy submissions must be post-marked by this date. Hard copy submissions will not be returned.

● Playwrights must be available to be on-site at Premiere Stages for the development of their script.

Plays and synopses will be evaluated by a panel of arts professionals. The panel will submit their recommendations to the producing artistic director and literary staff.

Playwrights (non-agent submissions) Playwrights submitting without an agent must include:

● A brief synopsis of the play (no more than half a page).

● A character breakdown.

● A history of the play’s development (if any) and a brief statement of your goals for development.

● The playwright’s bio or resume.

● A script sample from the play (no more than 10 pages).

The panel will request full scripts from synopses of interest.

Agent submissions

Full scripts will be accepted from legitimate literary agencies and by professional recommendation of someone with an affiliation to Premiere Stages.


The schedule for the Premiere Stages Play Festival is as follows:

2016 NATIONAL LATINO PLAWRITING AWARD

Submissions for the 2016 National Latino Playwriting Award are now open. Latino playwrights residing in the United States, its territories or Mexico are encouraged to submit scripts for the award. Each script will be read and evaluated by a culturally diverse panel of theatre artists; finalists will be judged by ATC artistic staff.

Submission Procedure

We respectfully ask that you adhere to the following application requirements:
  • Submit a single script via U.S. mail and email.
  • Scripts must be postmarked by December 31, 2015. 
  • Please include a title page on the script that includes the play’s title, the author’s name, and contact information (including a phone number, mailing address and email).
  • Include a cover letter of no more than one page, describing the play’s developmental history, and how the play fits into the playwright’s broader career trajectory.

Eligibility

The award is open to all Latino playwrights currently residing in the United States, its territories, or Mexico.

Plays must be unpublished and professionally unproduced at the time of submission.

Full-length and one-act plays (minimum length: 50 pages) on any subject will be accepted.

Long Island Theatre Collective (LITC) New Plays Festival

The Long Island Theatre Collective (LITC) is accepting submissions for its second annual New Plays Festival, to be performed April 22-23, 2016 in Lindenhurst, NY.

Selected playwrights will work closely with our collective of directors and actors to develop their piece and share it with our incredible audience.

We will be accepting short, one act scripts conveying the theme “The Second Time Around”. Plays with smaller casts and minimal technical elements will be of particular interest. We will not accept plays that have been previously produced or published.

Hope and Optimism on Stage

With generous funding from the John Templeton Foundation, Cornell University, and the University of Notre Dame, the directors of the Hope and Optimism project are pleased to announce an open playwriting competition. First-time and experienced playwrights are welcome.

Please Submit:
  • one full-length play (unproduced)
  • minimum 75 minutes

Production:

The winning play will be mounted in a professional theater in Ithaca, NY. The winning playwright will be flown to Ithaca (round trip from some other North American city) for the premiere and talk-back session.

Conditions:
  • Playwright agrees to allow her/his name and work to be used in publicity prior to the show
  • Playwright agrees to travel to Ithaca NY for premiere in April 2017
  • Playwright agrees that the Hope and Optimism Initiative may use footage from rehearsal and the show for promotional and education purposes in perpetuity. 

The Hope and Optimism Initiative agrees that, after the show's premiere, all copyrights for future productions and publication will be transferred to playwright.

FAQ:

Can I submit more than one play? No, there is a one play maximum.

Is a play that has been given a staged reading or workshop production eligible? Yes, but more 'official' productions of other sorts (e.g., college or community) would disqualify it.

Does other information (e.g., resume or personal statement) need to accompany the play itself? No.

Should the script prepared for blind review be accompanied by a cover page with identifying information? No, your name in the body of your submission e-mail is sufficient.

Should musical submissions be accompanied by music?Yes, musicals should be accompanied by music if possible. We prefer that it be attached via a link (in the PDF of the script) to the files in DropBox, SoundCloud, etc. Author's name should not appear anywhere in the DropBox (SoundCloud, etc.) folder.

"Scenes..." is our 14th annual presentation of original, short
one-act plays about our favorite boats, the Staten Island Ferries.


Guidelines:
--Original plays not previously produced/published, with a signed note affirming. --15-25 minutes long with the Staten Island Ferry as the setting

--Contemporary, with 2-3 characters and no special set pieces other than benches or railings found on the Ferry, limited and easily accessible props, and no special sound or lighting

--Avoid overt and unnecessary sexual/violence situations and offensive language.
--No musicals, long monologues, poetry, or verse
--As in life, humor is good

Remuneration: Six authors will receive $100 each and be produced in our series of five March 2016 performances in Staten Island, NYC.

As President Kennedy’s 100th birthday approaches on May 29, 2017, the Kennedy Center encourages everyone living in the United States to write an original play of 500 words or less examining his legacy as it lives on in the country today and responding to the call, “Ask not what your country can do for you – ask what you can do for your country.”

We want stories from across the United States, from people from all walks of life and all backgrounds, from writers young and old, from those who have written many times, to those who have never written a play before.

John F. Kennedy, 35th President of the United States and America’s first Irish-Catholic president, served in office from January 1961 until his assassination in November 1963, a total of just over 1000 days. His presidency, while shortened due to his untimely death, is notable due to the significant social and political events that occurred including the Bay of Pigs Invasion, the Cuban Missile Crisis, the Nuclear Test Ban Treaty, Police Week, the establishment of the Peace Corps, the Space Race, the building of the Berlin Wall, the African-American Civil Rights Movement, and increased U.S. involvement in the Vietnam War.

Kennedy’s legacy, ultimately, is that he coached our character as citizens of this great country. His presidency remains tied to, and identified with themes of exploration, innovation, creativity, courage, freedom, justice, and service.


Submission categories - one play will be selected for performance from each category:


· Middle school (grade 6-8 or equivalents) or ages 11-13

· High school (grade 9-12 or equivalents) or ages 14-17

· Adults ages 18-26

· Adults ages 27-59

· Adults ages 60 and over

· Kennedy Center Family (staff, volunteers, and their immediate family members)


Submission Criteria:

· All submissions must be 500 words or less, in English, and performable by a cast of no more than 3 actors.

· Playwrights are encouraged to write multi-character dialogue, not a monologue, although monologues will be accepted.

· All submissions should be complete plays which can stand on their own; structurally, each play should have a beginning, middle and end and not be an excerpt from a longer work. Excerpts from a longer work will not be accepted.

· Playwrights must live in the United States.
· Playwrights should submit a headshot that may be used publicly, including via social media.

· By submitting a play, playwrights (and/or their parents and/or guardians) agree that the Kennedy Center, Fishamble, the Irish Arts Center, and any sponsors or other supporters of the Tiny Plays project may use the playwright’s name, image and all or a portion of the submitted play to promote the Challenge, regardless of whether the play submitted is selected for performance.

Competition Rules and Procedures

Rule #1:
Any un-produced local playwrights are welcome, provided they live within the counties of Sacramento, Yolo, Placer, Solano, San Joaquin & El Dorado

Rule #2:
Your submitted script must be written in English and must not have been published or broadcast. Public stage readings are accepted.


Rule #3:
First Prize: $100.00 with a Thistle Dew Stage Production,

Rule #4:
Submission: one (1) original one-act play with a minimum 35 minutes and a maximum 45 minutes.*
*(Playwrights may be asked at a later time to extend their play to full-length for evening production.)

Call for Submissions For 4th Annual LaBute New Theater Festival

The St. Louis Actors’ Studio is proud to announce call for submissions for the 4th Annual LaBute New Theater Festival at the Gaslight Theater, with plays debuting from July 8-31, 2016. Submissions will be accepted October 1 through December 31, 2015.

Professional Submissions: Successful entries will have no more than four characters and be crafted specifically to exploit our intimate performance space. (18' x 18' stage) Changes in scenery or setting should be achievable quickly and with few major set moves. Our focus is on fundamental dramaturgy: plot, character and theme.

Professional, new and previously unproduced one-act play submissions should include a letter of inquiry, a synopsis and a 10-page sample from the script. Running time for each performance should not exceed 45 minutes.

Up to eight plays will be chosen, in addition, a new piece from Mr. LaBute will be performed every night for the run of the festival. Mr. LaBute is scheduled to participate in the opening weekend activities.

High School Submissions: Winning plays by high school students will be presented in readings. The guidelines are straightforward: The one act should include no more than four characters featuring a clearly developed plot and distinctive characters. No longer than 15 minutes in length.
Non-Professional, new and previously unproduced one-act play submissions should include a letter of inquiry and complete script.

HOW IT WORKS:
Four new musicals will be chosen and announced in April of 2016. These four winning entries will receive a workshop and a 45-minute staged reading of their musical at Muncie Civic Theatre in the summer of 2016. This reading will include feedback from multiple guest artists and industry professionals. A $500 travel and lodging stipend will be provided to each creative team for the summer workshop in Muncie, IN. At the conclusion of the festival, an overall winner will be selected. The winning musical will receive a summer workshop and a fully realized production at Ball State University in the fall semester of 2017. This production will then be a full entry at the American College Theatre Festival for the 2017-2018 school year, as well as an entry to the National Alliance of Musical Theatre.

PL.A.Y Noir 2016 - Call for Submissions

Turn to Flesh reserves the right to consider only pieces submitted between December 1, 2015 and January 1, 2016. Exceptions will only take place at the discretion of the Literary Manager with playwright’s explicit acknowledgement and permission.

Submission Package Must Include

A) A ten-page script sample in PDF format. You may submit any ten pages from your script.

B) Casting breakdown (M/F # of actors & short description of age/relevant casting info); approximate running time; intermission, special requirements.

C) The play’s production/workshop/reading history, if applicable. Please include any confirmed future workshops or productions of the play. (Note: a history of workshops/readings does not disqualify a piece from our reading series. The ideal script for this series is a play not yet ready for production, but one ready to be put on its feet. Again, your piece should benefit from a partially staged reading.)

D) A brief cover letter telling us who you are and why you feel your play would benefit from a staged reading with Turn To Flesh at this stage of development. Please include basic contact information, your city of residence, and your plan for attending and participating in rehearsals/the event in NYC, if selected.

The Reading Series Experience

Three scripts will receive a reading in June, July and August 2016, respectively. The final order of the season will be reviewed by the Artistic Director and Literary Manager in conjunction with playwrights’ schedules.

Each play will receive 9 hours of rehearsal and one staged reading before an exclusive audience in New York City. Turn to Flesh will hire a director and a complete cast for each staged reading; playwrights will not be required to supply their own creative team. The Literary Manager will attend all rehearsals and be available for dramaturgical assistance if requested. Audience feedback will be collected in written form and given to the playwright following the reading performance.

If selected for a reading, playwright must be available for 9 hours of in-person rehearsal and/or present for an exclusive reading event held in New York City. Regrettably, TURN TO FLESH PRODUCTIONS cannot provide housing or travel stipend for out-of-town playwrights. We can only consider submissions from playwrights outside New York/the greater Northeast region if playwrights can provide their own travel/housing and be present for rehearsal and/or the event.

A small honorarium will be awarded to each playwright who participates in the series.

What To Submit

Please review the TURN TO FLESH PRODUCTIONS mission statement and website to learn about our company and the kind of plays we are seeking. We ask that playwrights submit and adhere to the following guidelines:

This season, we welcome especially plays in the following styles: radio drama, commedia dell’arte, comedy of manners and farce.

Verse continues to be the signature style of TURN TO FLESH PRODUCTIONS; other forms of poetry and heightened language are also welcome (couplets, experimental, etc.).

Philosophically, the selected plays should embody the transcendental ideals of the “Good,” “True” and “Beautiful.”

The play should include a female protagonist and at least an even ratio of male to female roles.

Plays of 75-100 minutes are preferred.

Cast size of no more than 5-6 actors are preferred.

Adaptations must either be pieces in the public domain OR adhere to copyright guidelines in the United States. You may be asked to provide proof of permission for material not in the public domain.

What Not To Submit

No proposals/unfinished scripts will be accepted.

No translations of pre-existing material.

No “kitchen sink” plays - unless that kitchen sink play happens to be in verse.

No musicals, though some live music is acceptable; please email us with questions.

After You Submit

You will receive confirmation of your submission within 48 hours. Please do not send a follow-up email unless you do not receive a confirmation within that period.

At any point between December 1, 2015 and January 1, 2016 (approximately) you may be contacted by the Literary Manager to request the full script for review. At any point between December 1, 2015 and February 13, 2016 you will receive notification of your play’s acceptance or refusal. TURN TO FLESH PRODUCTIONS reserves the right to refuse any submission, especially those not in accordance with our submission guidelines.

On February 14, 2016, final selections will be publicly announced.

The February Play Festival is a small playwriting festival with readings held every Wednesday in February. Plays are workshopped with a rehearsal or two before each reading. Playwrights from all over the country are welcome to submit.

THE RULES

All plays must be full length (90 minutes or more). No musicals please.
  • Plays must have no more than 8 characters – doubling is allowed
  • The set must be simple or representational.
  • Ideally looking for subject matter that will appeal to an age range of 18 – 30.
  • Seeking new plays that have not been professionally produced or published.
  • Plays will be screened by the competition committee. The top 5 will be submitted to the judges.
  • Prizes – 1st prize = Production of the play in the Fischer Black box in May plus $150, 2nd prize = $75
  • 3rd prize = $50
  • Contestants must sign a release form to authorize production
  • Scripts cannot be returned
  • Materials that are adapted from or otherwise derived from copyrighted source material must also submit permission to use the material at the time of submission.
  • The winning author agrees to the production of his/her play with no royalty payment. The author also agrees to allow LVLT to video tape the production. LVLT cannot provide transportation, lodging or other compensation for the author to travel to Las Vegas for the production.
  • Members of LVLT’s board of directors may not submit for this competition
  • Submissions will be accepted through December 31, 2015. The winner will be announced no later than March 30, 2016
  • Decision of the judges is final. Any disputes will be decided by the LVLT board of directors.

2016 Barhoppers

Offstage Theatre is back and we are looking for submissions for our 2016 Barhoppers series to be performed late February/early March in bars in and around Charlottesville, VA!
Here are the details:

Offstage is seeking short plays that can be performed in Charlottesville area drinking establishments. Because these plays are performed in bars, your play should (obviously) take place in a bar, but also make sure your script doesn’t call for any special tech stuff or need any specific stage configuration. We need to be able to stage it simply, and in several different locations.

Remember that we always have more women than men in our acting pool.

We do want it to be a new play, not a previous submission.

Not every play should be about sex or being drunk. Unless it’s a really good play about sex or being drunk.

Optional prompt: If you already have a play written that you would like to submit to Barhoppers, send it on! If you are interested in writing a script for this event, please consider using the following prompt:

A person walks in with a briefcase. This can happen at the beginning, the end, or in the middle. As long as the briefcase is significant.

Submission guidelines:

Scripts must be NO LONGER than 15 pages.

Playwrights may submit up to two (2) scripts for consideration. There is no fee to submit to Offstage.

Please submit in PDF or MS Word. Include all contact information and the title of your play in the body of your email, but no identifying information should appear anywhere else in the attached document. Submissions must be in a standard font and no less than 12 point.

The Robert J. Pickering Award for Playwriting Excellence

This annual award was established to honor past member and playwright, Bob Pickering, and to provide a vehicle for playwrights to see their works produced. Over 30 plays have been produced over since 1984. $200 is awarded for first place, $50 for second place and $25 for third place.

We are now accepting submissions for Lama Theater Company’s Monthly Question! The Monthly Question is a reading series of new and bold writing (short plays/ Monologues/ poems/ Songs) around Lama’s monthly question that will be performed at The Kraine Theater, NYC.

Our Mission: Lama means WHY in Hebrew. The Lama Theater Company is a writer/director-driven, nonprofit company that continually raises questions and encourages bold new writing from within the nation and around the world to inspire different points of view and theatrical visions.

The Mountain Playhouse International Comedy Playwriting Contest

The submission deadline for the 2016 Playwriting Contest is December 31st, 2015. 

 All submissions must be postmarked by this date. Mountain Playhouse will stage a public reading of the winning play before the end of 2016, and the author will be awarded a cash prize of $1,000. In addition, should the Mountain Playhouse decide to present a live production of the play, the author will receive royalties.

To submit your entry, you will need to download the Playwriting Contest Agreement, print and sign it, then mail your play with the agreement to 7690 Somerset Pike, P.O. Box 205, Jennerstown, PA 15547.

If you wish to have your script returned after the contest is over, you must enclose a self-addressed envelope with sufficient postage to cover the return.

TERESA'S HELPFUL HINTS FOR PLAY SUBMISSIONS
Type your title and name on the top sheet and do not have your name on the body of the play.

If you include a synopsis, keep it on a separate sheet from the play.

Include a list of characters and, if necessary, explain how 8 actors could perform the show.

Send a loose leaf copy held together by a single binder clip. Single or double sided is your choice, but don't waste time or effort to bind the play any other way as we will take that binding apart when we receive it anyway.

Leah Ryan's Fund for Emerging Women Writers

All women who consider themselves emerging playwrights (as distinct from fledgling or mid-career playwrights) are eligible to apply for the FEWW Prize. Playwrights from all over the world are encouraged to apply, but the play must be written in English. Eligibility does not require that a submitted work adhere to the traditional three-act structure. One-acts, two-acts (even four-, five-, six- acts), monologues, adaptations, and any other wild (or deceptively tame) format will be considered with equal seriousness. The only absolute requirement is that the submitted text be a completed full-length work for theater.

The 2016 winner will be chosen by a committee selected by the board members of Leah Ryan's FEWW, and will be presented her award as part of the 2016 Lily Awards, which honors the work of women in American theater.

The winner will also receive a cash award of $2,500 as well as a staged reading of her play hosted by FEWW at a theater in New York City. In addition, a stipend of up to $700 for travel and accommodation may be provided by FEWW if necessary.

We will begin accepting applications for this year’s prize on November 15, 2016.

The deadline for submissions for the 2016 FEWW Prize is Monday, January 11th, 2016 at 5pm EST.
Applications must include the following:

1. Ten pages excerpted from a fully developed, completed script. Please note: finalists will be required to submit the complete script to the FEWW;

2. A cover letter of no more than 300 words describing yourself and your work.

3. Your resume or a bio;

4. The name, address, email and phone number of one reference. This person should know you well and be able to speak about your work if called to do so.

  • Playwrights who do not have agents may submit 10-page dialogue samples for consideration. Dialogue samples must be accompanied by a synopsis, production history and character breakdown.
  • Plays are eligible for development at the Little Festival of the Unexpected only if they have not previously been professionally produced or workshopped with Equity actors. This restriction includes Actors Equity showcase and waiver productions. Plays that have had readings or non-AEA productions are still eligible.

Only one submission is accepted per playwright in a given year.
Submissions of 10-page samples (from playwrights) must be sent by U.S. Mail only – no e-mails, faxes, etc.

Call for One-Act Comedies

Starlite Players produces four or five short comedies for one weekend each month in Sarasota’s Starlite Room. If you’d like to send your comedy for consideration, please take a few minutes to browse our website (starliteplayers.com), visit our Facebook page (Starlite Players) and learn about us. Then make sure your script follows our guidelines below, developed after reviewing many scripts.
We’re very picky, and consequently we’re always on the lookout for outstanding scripts. Although the current submission deadline has passed, we will continue to accept scripts for further consideration.

The guidelines tell you what we want. It you think you’ve got it, send it on! Email your play to info@starliteplayers.com with the words “Script Submission” in the subject line. We always look forward to discovering exciting new work and will get back to you if we want to produce your play.

To be considered for the coming productions, get your script to us for evaluation by December 15.

GUIDELINES
  • Preference given to Tampa Bay playwrights but we will consider work from others.
  • We seek comedies, preferably contemporary.
  • Plays should be short but not too short: 10 pages minimum, up to 25 pages maximum.
  • Unpublished, original work only. If your script requires song lyrics, music, poetry or any other creative input by someone other than yourself, please do not send it unless you include a royalty-free grant of rights from the author or his/her representative. Likewise, if your work was adapted from, written in tribute to, inspired by or otherwise drawing on work written after 1922 by someone else, be aware that it may be covered by copyright. We will not be likely to consider such a play without a written release.
  • Previous productions are permitted and even welcomed.
  • Cast limit is 4 actors.
  • Production requirements must be simple.
  • We present our plays in a bar so it’s OK if they’re slightly risqué.
  • If you have sent us a script before then we’ve read it. We don’t have time or staff to read it again.
  • Limit is 1 script per author so send us your best.
  • PLEASE do use standard script format--and we really mean it! One-inch margins, 12-point type, single-spaced stage directions and dialogue, character name centered above dialogue. Number the pages and start the dialogue on page 1.
  • Please do not include cartoons, drawings, non-standard type fonts or promotional material. We want to evaluate your work on its merits. Extraneous material is distracting.
  • We cannot accept hard copies. Instead, please email two PDF files, each with the name of the play.
  • The first PDF must not contain your name anywhere but it must include the script title, cast of characters..
  • The second PDF should be a title page with your contact information (name, address, phone, email) along with the play’s title and its development history.
  • Please don’t send screenplays, musicals or children's plays.
  • Scripts not meeting guidelines will not be reviewed.
  • Please be aware that this is not a developmental program. We want plays that are ready to be staged.
Starlite Players doesn’t charge a submission fee. We do offer a full production and a small royalty. What we ask in return is your consideration in preparing your submission—and of course your talent in creating a wonderful script! We look forward to reading it.
