SLAM Boston Diverse Voices in Theatre* is back at OTP for 2016 and we're looking for NEW scripts from all over Boston & beyond! This 10 min Play competition is all about fun, inclusion and two nights of fast paced theatre not to be missed. This series we are proud to produce SLAM Boston under the Boston Playwrights’ Theatre Black Box Fellowship. We work with the SLAM Boston model because of it's focus on diversity in an artistic setting and we are seeking work for and by individuals of color, woman & those from the LGTBQ community. Scripts need to be sent with a BLIND copy for our reading team.

If you have submitted to OTP’s SLAM Boston before, please do NOT submit again unless your scripts has been updated, we will consider all plays received in 2015 that were not chosen at that time.

The Parish Players' first Ten-Minute Play Festival in 2007 was a collection of sharp, funny, and moving plays that said it all in ten minutes (or darn close) and sold out nearly as fast. We are again looking for a perfect combination of original plays for full production on the Parish Players stage in February 2017.

The University of Houston School of Theatre & Dance 10-Minute Play Festival

The University of Houston School of Theatre & Dance is excited to announce our third annual 10-Minute Play Festival for spring of 2017. We will begin accepting submissions for this festival on August 15, 2016; the submission period closes on October 31, 2016. Nine selected 10-minute plays will receive productions as part of a multi-evening festival, produced in the newly upgraded José Quintero Theatre on the University of Houston campus. This festival is open to all applicants, amateur or professional.

Submission rules:

 Scripts will only be accepted during a submission window of August 15 through October 31, 2016. Scripts received outside this window will not be accepted. The list of winning plays will be announced in November.

 We will accept only one play per playwright.

 Scripts should fall in the range of 8-12 pages and run roughly ten minutes. (Page count does not include the title page.)

 Characters in submitted plays should fall between the ages of 16-30 or else there should be no specific restrictions on the ages of the characters.

 Previously produced plays are not eligible.

 Musicals and plays for children are discouraged.

 Submissions will be acknowledged via email, but we do not offer critiques.

 Nine winning plays will receive productions in the José Quintero Theatre at the University of Houston in spring of 2017.

 There is no financial compensation for winning entries.

T. Schreiber Studio & Theatre's 2017 New Works Project

The T. Schreiber Theatre's New Works Project is an opportunity for playwrights to have their work heard and seen in a professional setting. Phase 1 of the submission process takes place October 6-November 1, 2016. Three finalists will be chosen for the project to have their play presented in a three night reading series. One winner will be selected to receive a workshop production run of their show with artistic support from the T. Schreiber production team.

Mission Statement:
The T. Schreiber Studio & Theatre New Works Project is committed to supporting the development of new plays in a safe and nurturing environment-one that serves the playwright and enriches the T. Schreiber community as a whole. TSS provides the playwright access to the expertise of experienced theatre professionals, sophisticated and well trained actors, and a supportive, interactive audience. In the New Works Project, T. Schreiber will develop new theatrical productions through a series of staged readings and collaborative refinement, culminating in a professional workshop production. The goal is to foster and elevate writers’ work to its fullest potential.

Three plays will be chosen as finalists to receive staged readings, performed by T. Schreiber actors. One play will be chosen as the New Works Project winner to receive a workshop production with a 2-week run. NWP Program Director Jake Turner will work with playwright to further develop the winning play and will serve as Director for the workshop production. Audience feedback is solicited and the production staff of T. Schreiber will work directly with the playwright to refine the play. There will be no cash prize provided for the selected play.

The New Works Project is committed to script development and successful production of new works. Winning playwrights are expected to participate fully in the development process: working directly with the director and T. Schreiber staff during staged readings; interacting with audiences post-readings; and participating in the workshop production. While T. Schreiber cannot provide transportation or housing to playwrights submitting works from outside the NYC area, every effort will be made to help selected playwrights find local accommodations.

GUIDELINES:

Submission is a two-phase process.

Phase I
Submission period for the 2017 New Works Project is October 6-November 1, 2016. 
  • Submit a two page maximum treatment of the play including title, character breakdown (please include age range and gender), and brief story synopsis. 
  • Also include 5 pages of consecutive sample dialogue. 
  • Playwrights should also include a one page bio and resume including contact information.

*Unsolicited full manuscripts will not be read. Submissions sent before our after submission period will not be read.

All abstracts and dialogue samples will be read. From these, selected manuscripts will be solicited for Phase II.

If selected for Phase II, manuscripts should be sent within 1 week of notification. Manuscripts should be properly formatted and have the playwright’s name, contact address and phone number on the front page. PDF's and MS Word file formats preferred. All manuscripts selected for Phase II will be read and reviewed by the selection committee. Again, no unsolicited manuscripts.

The EST/Sloan Project commissions, develops and presents new works delving into how we view and are affected by the scientific world. These plays examine the struggles and challenges scientists and engineers face from moral issues to the consequences of their discoveries.

The Project is designed to stimulate artists to create credible and compelling work exploring the worlds of science and technology and to challenge existing stereotypes of scientists and engineers in the popular imagination. The Project commissions and develops new works throughout EST’s developmental season, including one Mainstage Production, as well as workshops and readings in an annual festival called FIRST LIGHT.

Now in its 15th year, the EST/Sloan Project has awarded commissions totaling more than $450,000 to more than 140 artists. Previous commissionees include: Billy Aronson, Mike Daisey, Jason Grote, Ann Marie Healy, Michael Hollinger, Israel Horovitz, Tina Howe, Shirley Lauro, Emily Levine, Romulus Linney, Quincy Long, Cassandra Medley, Dan O’Brien, Carey Perloff, Bill Pullman, Jaquelyn Reingold, Tommy Smith, Caridad Svich, Vern Thiessen, Alex Timbers, Bridgette Wimberly, David Zellnik, Stillpoint Productions, and The Royal Shakespeare Company.
COMMISSION AWARDS

Commissions will be awarded to individuals, groups and creative teams for full-length and one-act plays and musicals. Commissions range from $1000 to $10,000. Commission amounts are determined on a case-by-case basis, as are deadlines for drafts, finished work, and research support (if appropriate). Extant, full-length works may be submitted and are judged on a script-by-script basis by the EST/Sloan Project staff. Rewrite commissions for existing scripts range from $1,000 to $5,000.

Commissions are also available for regional theaters who wish to sponsor a local project focused on science and technology, either by commissioning a new script or developing an extant piece. Regional commission amounts are determined on a case-by-case basis, ranging from $2,000 - $5,000.

The EST/Sloan Project is open to a broad range of topics related to the issues, people, ideas, processes, leading-edge discoveries, inventions, and/or history of the "hard" sciences and technology.

HOW TO APPLY
NEW COMMISSIONS

Individuals, creative teams and theatre companies interested in receiving an EST/Sloan Project commission should submit the following as their application for a grant:
A one- or two-page description or a simple outline/synopsis of the project. This document should describe the actual story being explored and include in the description of the story how the science being portrayed would be inherently dramatic in the piece. Focus on plot and character development, and, as it ideally will in the finished play, how the science comes out through plot and character.
A resume or biography of each collaborator involved.

REWRITE COMMISSIONS

Individuals, creative teams and theatre companies interested in receiving an EST/Sloan Project rewrite grant should submit the following as their application:
A draft of the script.
A one- or two-page cover letter detailing the development history of the play, your goals for a rewrite commission, and any questions you have about the current draft.
A resume or biography of each collaborator involved.

A selection committee evaluates the proposals and makes the final decisions. Candidates may be asked to revise aspects of their proposals, provide writing samples, and/or arrange a meeting to discuss their project as part of the selection process.

Blackboard Plays RedVolution Community Night seeks short plays

The RedVolution Community evening is simple: Playwrights submit short plays (up to 30 minutes) for this themed evening. Unlike most community nights, submissions, will only be accepted September 1 – October 31st. Playwrights may send us one play per season for consideration. The proposed play must still be in development and cannot be receiving a professional production prior to August 2017.

The Reva Shiner Comedy Award

The fee will be waived for Dramatist Guild members with an enclosed photocopy of a membership card.

The Reva Shiner Comedy Award presents an unpublished full-length comedy with a cash prize of $1,000, a full production as part of the Bloomington Playwrights Project's Mainstage season, along with travel reimbursement. We are currently accepting submissions for the 2017-18 Season. The deadline is October 31, 2016.
  1. "Full-length" plays will have a complete running time of between 1 hour 15 minutes (75 minutes) to 2 hours 15 minutes (135 minutes).
  2. Plays submitted must be unpublished at the time of submission. Plays that have received developmental readings, workshop productions, or productions at small theatre companies are acceptable. No scripts with previous productions at major regional theaters will be accepted. Once entered, subsequent activity does not change the acceptability of the script.
  3. Each submission must include a synopsis (1 page or less) including the cast size. A separate page should include a brief bio of the playwright, and production/development history if applicable.
  4. Each submission must include a cover letter with contact information and a $10.00 reader fee. Agent submissions require no fee. The fee will be waived for Dramatist Guild members with an enclosed photocopy of a membership card. 
  5. It is preferable for musicals to include a demo CD. The complete score is not necessary but may be included. All plays are read by BPP's literary personnel led by and including the Literary Manager and Artistic Director.
  6. We do not accept e-mail submissions. Scripts will not be returned. Blind submissions are not necessary. Please include all contact information. Plays submitted in previous years will be accepted.
  7. The BPP reserves the right not to name a winner and/or name a winner but not commit to a reading or production.

The Pacific Playwrights Festival (PPF)

PPF annually presents seven new plays—readings, workshops and productions—during a three-day period. Audiences consist of local playgoers and representatives from theatres nationwide. National Ten-Minute Play Contest

About the National Ten-Minute Play Contest

Established in 1989, the National Ten-Minute Play Contest remains one of the most enduring and significant means by which the literary staff at Actors Theatre of Louisville connects with American playwrights and is introduced to vibrant new voices for the stage. We consider all submissions for the Heideman Award—a $1,000 cash prize given out each February—as well as for production in the Apprentice/Intern Tens and the Humana Festival of New American Plays.

An annual event that takes place in January, the A/I Tens consist of a bill of 8-10 world premiere ten-minute plays, fully produced at Actors Theatre of Louisville and performed by our Apprentice Company of young actors.

CONTEST GUIDELINES:
  • Scripts should be submitted between September 1-November 1 (postmark dates).
  • Characters in submitted plays should be in the age range 18-28.
  • Each script must be no more than ten pages long. (We start counting pages after the title page and character list, if applicable.) Title page must include the playwright’s name, address, phone number and e-mail address. Each manuscript must be typed and individually bound or stapled.
  • Each playwright may submit only one script—send us your best!
  • Previously submitted plays, plays that have received an Equity production, musicals, children’s shows, and any unsolicited longer one-act or full-length plays are not accepted and will not be returned nor receive a response. Plays that have received Equity waiver showcase productions are eligible. Playwrights must be citizens or permanent residents of the USA.
  • We are unable to accept electronic submissions. Please mail submissions to: National Ten-Minute Play Contest, Actors Theatre of Louisville, 316 West Main Street, Louisville, KY 40202-4218.
  • Submissions are limited to the first 500 scripts we receive each year. If your play is received after we’ve hit the 500-script mark, you will be notified. Entries will be acknowledged by postcard in December. Playwrights will be notified of their finalist or non-finalist status the following summer. No scripts will be returned.
  • The volume of scripts submitted hampers our ability to comment individually on each work, so we do not offer criticism.
  • All ten-minute plays will be considered for the Heideman Award ($1000)*, as well as for production in the Apprentice/Intern Tens and the Humana Festival of New American Plays.

*The Heideman Award was established in 1979. Made possible by the late Ted Heideman, a Louisvillian, the $1,000 cash prize is bestowed annually upon the winner of the National Ten-Minute Play Contest (1990 – present).

The Richard Rodgers Awards 2017

These awards, created and endowed by Richard Rodgers in 1978 for the development of the musical theater, subsidize full productions, studio productions, and staged readings by nonprofit theaters in New York City of works by composers and writers who are not already established in this field. The winners are selected by a jury of the American Academy of Arts and Letters.

1. The term "musical theater" is understood to include musicals, plays with songs, thematic revues, or any comparable work. The submission of innovative and experimental work is encouraged. The work submitted must be of significant length to fill an evening, and it may consist of a group of smaller, related pieces.

2. The jury will consider only completed works. Care should be taken to submit the work in its best possible form as it may not be submitted again, in another year, even if substantially revised.

3. Only one submission by a collaborative group or a sole creator will be accepted. Applicants must be citizens or permanent residents of the United States.

4. Works by members of the Academy and previous winners of the production awards are not eligible for consideration. Former winners of Richard Rodgers awards for staged readings or studio productions may submit new works.

5. An applicant whose works in the musical theater have received professional or amateur productions in New York City or out of town is eligible unless, in the judgment of the jury, the applicant has already achieved significant recognition in the field of musical theater through the work submitted or through any previous work. Under special circumstances and at the discretion of the jury, applicants who have achieved recognition in fields outside the musical theater may be eligible. Works which have been produced by professional theater companies before a paying audience are eligible only if such productions received no more than 21 performances by a for- profit company or 50 performances by a nonprofit company.


B. SUBMISSION OF MATERIAL

1. The name(s) of the author(s) must be blocked out on each of the items submitted, with the exception of the application form. Write only the title of the work on the script, plot summary, CD.

2. Entry must include four items:

a) Script with lyrics, preferably with no binders or metal clips. Do not send score, videos, or visuals.

b) Half-page synopsis of the action, and a list of characters.

c) CD must contain at least 45 minutes of music, including a minimum of eight songs, recorded in chronological order. Orchestrations are not necessary; piano and vocals are sufficient. Songs must be in sequence on the CD and each song clearly keyed into the script.

d) Please include a separate track sheet of recorded songs with page numbers indicating where they appear in the script, and specify the total number of minutes recorded.

e) Application form signed by all collaborators in a sealed envelope with the title of the work on the outside. Applicants submitting work which has already been produced must give full information concerning these productions, including programs. A work is not eligible if one of the collaborators is deceased.

3. If the submitted work (or a portion thereof) is an adaptation of material which is not in the public domain, candidates must submit licenses, permissions, or authorizations necessary to permit the work to be produced in conformity with applicable copyright laws. The music must be original.

4. Materials will be returned if a self-addressed, stamped mailer is enclosed. Addresses must be valid for at least six months. The Academy will take all due care of materials, but it cannot be held responsible for their safe return.

5. Applicants will be notified of the jury's decision by March 2017. C. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

1. All rights to the material submitted shall remain the property of the author(s); the Academy will not retain any control over, or rights in, the work after the award production.

2. The decisions of the jury will be final as to eligibility and all other matters.

Competition Rules:

1. The competition is open to all playwrights 18 years of age and older. Only one play per playwright may be entered per year. Plays may be co-written by more than one playwright, but the names of all playwrights must appear on the entry form.

2. Entries must be one-act stage plays with performance times of 8 to 15 minutes. Full-length plays, musicals, children’s plays, film and TV scripts, and plays previously entered in this competition are ineligible.

3. Submissions are restricted to original dramatic works – no adaptations – that have not been previously published or submitted to this playwriting competition.

4. While all reasonable care will be taken, Tree City Playhouse and SCAC do not assume any responsibility for lost, misplaced or damaged scripts.

5. There are no restrictions on genre or theme.

6. Scripts will be judged on concept, dramatic action, characterization and dialogue. Preference will be given to plays with 2 to 4 characters, limited staging requirements, and content/language sensitive to the “family-friendly” value of Tree City Playhouse. The decisions of the judges are final. No critiques will be given, and no scripts will be returned.

7. Tree City Playhouse will produce the winning plays royalty-free during its 2017 Festival of 10-Minute Plays. This includes the right to make rehearsal copies of the script, to use the title of the play and the author’s name in publicity and promotion, and to videotape the play for archival purposes. The playwright will receive a program and DVD from the production. All future production and publication rights remain the property of the playwright.

8. The deadline for entries is a postmark of November 1, 2016. Late scripts will not be accepted, and revisions cannot be made once a script has been submitted.

Formatting Instructions:

1. To ensure anonymity during the judging process, no personal information should appear anywhere on the submitted script. The entry form will contain this information.

2. All scripts should be printed on 8-1/2” x 11” white paper, typewritten on one side only and submitted in acceptable play manuscript format. Each copy should be bound with a staple. Pages must be numbered, and the name of the play should appear on each page.

3. The entry form, bio, synopsis and fee or copy of DG card should be clipped together.

Snowdance® 10 Minute Comedy Festival 2017

The Snowdance® 10 Minute Comedy Festival is a festival of original comedies that run 10 minutes or less. Submitted scripts will be judged by the Snowdance Selection Committee. A selection of scripts will be chosen for production during the Snowdance Festival in the winter of 2017. These selections will round out a complete performance. Audiences attending Snowdance performances will have the ability to vote for the production they enjoyed the most. The votes will be tallied throughout the five week festival run, and the Snowdance “Best in Snow” will be awarded to the winning playwright after the final performance on March 5, 2017. Cash award of $500.00 to “Best in Snow,” with $200.00 awards to second place and $100 for third place.

November - Scripts chosen for production will be announced.
February 3 – March 5, 2017 - Run of festival performances.
March 5, 2017 (immediately after final performance) - Announcement of “Best in Snow.”

To enter a script, please follow these steps.
  1. Competition is open to original 10 minute or shorter plays free of royalty and copyright restrictions. Submission is considered to be approval to produce the piece without royalty if selected for production in the Snowdance Festival. Musicals, adaptations, and translations will not be considered.
  2. Plays must run 10 minutes or less. A rule of thumb - 1 page (8 1/2 x 11) of single spaced, average dialogue will total about 90 seconds. Read it out loud - time it – test it – and re-write if need be.
  3. Submissions must be postmarked on or before November 1st 2016.
  4. Manuscripts must be on standard 8-1/2” x 11” paper, cleanly typed and securely bound. Scripts should follow standard format. (Check any scriptwriting book in your library)
  5. Plays can have a cast of 1 to 5 characters and should be easily staged. Avoid any elaborate set requirements. And remember it is a ‘COMEDY FESTIVAL’.
  6. The writer’s name, address, phone number, and e-mail address (if applicable) should be included on the title page and only the title page. The title page should also include a cast list, set requirements, and a 1 to 3 sentence synopsis of the play.
  7. Submit one (1) copy of your script.

Tenth Annual Original One-Act Festival

Festival prizes to be awarded: Six plays shall be selected for production in the spring (March/April/May) of 2017. Of those six selected, one shall win the Grand Prize $150 and one shall win runner up $100 as determined by the festival play readers. Of the remaining four, one shall will an Audience Favorite Prize $100 to be determined by the audience attending the festival performances.

All submissions must be original, unpublished one act plays of 20 pages or less.

Theatre Southwest is NOW accepting short plays for its 12th Annual Reader's Theatre Matinee! This year the TSW-RTM will happen on Sunday, Nov. 20th, 2016 at 3:00 P.M. and our new event producers Brian Heaton and Scott McWhirter will be accepting 5-10 minute scripts from NOW until November 7th, 2016 (postmarked by). Selected plays will be read and voted on by the audience in attendance and the Audience Favorite will receive a $100 prize!
Guidelines for this this year's event are as follows:
  • Scripts will be accepted via snail-mail only (no emails, no PDF's).
  • Scripts entered cannot be returned.
  • Limit of 2 entries per playwright.
  • There is NO ENTRY FEE.
  • ALL scripts should be numbered with title, list of characters, brief synopsis of play and playwright's contact info on title page.
  • ALL scripts should be stapled in the upper left hand corner.
  • No Monologues or one man/woman plays will be accepted.

ALL genres of plays will be accepted (light comedies, heavy dramas, thrillers, mystery, sci-fi, satire) with no regard to language or subject matter content.

ALL plays should be able to be read within 5 to 10 minutes, no longer, no exceptions. If using standard play format a good gauge would be if the play's text is 4 to 11 pages long (excluding title page).

Please make sure the play you are submitting is conducive to Reader's Theatre, simple stage directions, story mostly expressed through dialogue, not action.

Approximately 8-12 plays will be selected to be given a performance level read, and the playwrights selected will be informed prior to the event.

Residency - Writers Omi at Ledig House

Since its founding in 1992, Writers Omi at Ledig House has hosted hundreds of authors and translators, representing more than fifty countries. We welcome published writers and translators of every type of literature. International, cultural and creative exchange is a foundation of our mission, and a wide distribution of national background is an important part of our selection process.

Guests may select a residency of one week to two months; about ten at a time gather to live and work in a rural setting overlooking the Catskill Mountains. Ledig House provides all meals, and each night a local chef prepares dinner. Daytime is reserved for writing and quiet activities, while evenings are more communal. A program of weekly visits bring guests from the New York publishing community. Noted editors, agents and book scouts are invited to share dinner and conversation on both creative and practical subjects, offering insight into the workings of the publishing industry, and introductions to some of its key professionals. German publisher, Heinrich Maria Ledig-Rowohlt, for whom the program is named, was noted for his passionate commitment to quality in literature. His list of authors included Thomas Wolfe, William Faulkner, Yukio Mishima, Jean-Paul Sartre, Vladimir Nabokov, John Updike, Toni Morrison and Thomas Pynchon.

Writers Omi has hosted hundreds of writers and translators from roughly 50 countries around the world. The colony's strong international emphasis reflects the spirit of cultural exchange that is part of Ledig's enduring legacy.

Each applicant is required to provide 4 (four) separate items in total:

1. A cover letter, which provides the following details: country of birth, country of residency, the language in which you write, your preferred residency dates. Additionally, please let us know how you heard about Writers Omi at Ledig House, why you want to come to Writers Omi and what you expect to get from the experience.

New Plays for Young Audiences seeks full-length play scripts

New Plays for Young Audiences seeks new unpublished and unproduced full-length play scripts for young audiences (ages 4-21) for our 20th season, June 2017. The final date that submissions for 2017 will be accepted is October 31, 2016.

Submission Guidelines:
In your email submission, please include your name, the name of the play, and where we can contact you.

Also include in your submission your goals for the week of development – questions about the script you hope to answer, characters you want to further develop, story areas you want to look closer at, etc. Scripts received without goals are automatically disqualified, as this is an important part of our process.

If you are submitting an adaptation, we ask that you include proof that the original author has agreed to you adapting their work.
Finally, also rank, from most to least preferred, the development week that works best for you. Please also note any scheduling conflicts you have during that 3 week period. We cannot guarantee a preferred slot, but this information will help facilitate the scheduling process once scripts are selected. The 2017 series is slated to run June 4-25: June 4-11, June 11-18, and June 18-25.

Please note that we only accept previously unpublished and unproduced full-length play scripts. If your script has had a fully produced production, we cannot accept it. We accept musical submissions, but do not generally develop a musical every season. If you are uncertain if your script meets this requirement or believe there is cause for an exemption, feel free to contact us (David Montgomery or Teresa Fisher).

We welcome scripts of any cast size, but are limited to 10 actors due to the size of our stage. If your script requires more than 10 actors, include doubling suggestions with your submission.

A DEVELOPMENT SERIES FOR PLAYWRIGHTS

Play Submission Guidelines

With its roots in the McCarthy Era Blacklisiting, Will Geer’s Theatricum Botanicum has provided a home in Southern California for professional Shakespeare and the classics in its scenic, outdoor amphitheatre in rustic Topanga Canyon for over 40 years. Theatricum is also committed to finding new works and furthering new voices in theatre through Botanicum Seedlings.

The submission window is September 1 – November 1 annually. We will close this window after the first 200 submissions are received. These works will be considered for development and also production.

Opportunities through Botanicum Seedlings include Playreadings, Play Festivals, private GreenReads (for a fresh look at early drafts) and Playwrights Workshops through Theatricum’s Academy, culminating in developmental GreenReads. Since its creation in 2002, the program has supported well over 100 new plays.

The goals of Botanicum Seedlings are:
  1.  to maintain focus on the needs of the playwright in regard to a play’s growth;
  2.  to foster relationships with emerging playwrights around the globe;
  3.  to act as an advocate whenever appropriate in recommending plays to other companies;
  4.  to establish Theatricum Botanicum as a guiding force in the development of original material; and
  5. to provide a nurturing environment in which Theatricum company members can expand and stretch in new directions as actors as well as directors, writers and dramaturgs.

For consideration, please keep in mind that Theatricum encourages provocative, political and socially relevant material, and prefers works that are uniquely theatrical and character-driven. Although the company is classically based, Seedlings is by no means traditional in its sensibilities and is not looking for classical translations or adaptations unless they are highly original. Nor are we interested in scripts which might be better suited to film or television. In addition, Botanicum Seedlings is committed to gender parity, with a goal of 50% or more women playwrights and directors involved in its public readings.

Submissions may also be considered for production as part of Theatricum Botanicum’s Summer Repertory Season. Please note that the theatre very rarely includes new works in its season; both of our performance spaces are outdoor amphitheatres in a natural setting.

From September 1 – November 1, we accept the first 200 electronic submissions of 10-15 page dialogue samples from full length plays (sorry, no queries for one-acts or short plays) accompanied by playwright’s bio and play history as MS Doc or PDF attachments sent to seedlings@theatricum.com. (Only one play per year, please!)

Eden Prairie Players is accepting submissions of unpublished one act plays for its 2017 Collection of One Acts to be produced in September of 2017.

Submission Guidelines
  • We allow only one submission per playwright.
  • We are seeking unpublished one-act plays: dramas, comedies, etc. (previously-produced or stage readings OK)
  • Length 30 minutes or under (we typically select most in the 10-25 minute range)
  • The play must be submitted as a PDF file through our submission form. 
  • Submit through the online submission form:
  • Playwright contact information - name, email, address, phone.
  • Name of play.
  • Approximate duration.
  • List of characters / descriptions: age, gender, race if specified, etc. (please list allowable deviations) 
  • Short synopsis of the play, including a description of recommended set pieces and props
  • Has it been performed before? Where?
  • After the form is submitted, you will receive a confirmation email. 
  • Plays will be reviewed on a first come-first served basis. We limit consideration to an arbitrary number of plays, so submissions will be closed after we reach that limit.

Compensation

Selected plays will be paid a royalty of $25 per performance (we usually have 5-7 performances).
No compensation for selection process: By submitting your play(s) for consideration, you give Eden Prairie Players permission to make copies as needed for the selection process. You also give permission for your play to be performed without payment at an unrehearsed table readings as part of the selection process.

A: We provide access to each play for one or more authorized reviewers to read and rate as part of the selection process. Plays are narrowed down to a smaller subset of candidate plays. From this subset, plays are read at a public table reading and selected by our advisory committee.

If you use Mac OS X, and your application doesn’t have one of these commands, you can save any file to PDF using the Print command and the PDF button in the Print dialog. This feature is built into the operating system and works with any application that has a Print command.
Google Docs is a free service from Google at docs.google.com. This service has many useful features for writers, including online storage (through the integrated Google Drive service), sharing, and collaborative editing of documents. It also allows you to upload files from Word or other applications to convert them to Google Docs. And Google Docs has a Download as PDF feature.

Q. What about language in my play?

A: While we bill these productions as intended for mature audiences due to subject matter and language, we strongly consider what our audience's reaction to each piece will be.


Q: How long has Eden Prairie Players produced unpublished one-acts?

A: 2010 was the first year that EPP produced unpublished works as part of our Collection of One Acts, and it was immediately successful. The response from our audience was overwhelmingly positive. We now like to include a mix of published and unpublished works. In 2012, all of the plays we selected were unpublished when they were submitted to us, although some were published before we presented them. We hope to carry that enthusiasm forward each year by continuing to introduce our audience to fresh new works written by exciting playwrights. 2017 Last Frontier Theatre Conference

Play submissions are now being accepted for the Play Lab at the 2017 Last Frontier Theatre Conference. There are two submission deadlines this year. October 20 is the general date.
Past participants and Alaskan writers may submit as late as November 21. The 25th annual Conference will take place June 11-17, 2017, in Valdez, Alaska.

Selected plays receive public readings, with both public and private feedback sessions led by theatre professionals. Authors must register for the Conference and be in attendance for their reading.
Accepted writers will also have an additional opportunity to present their work in the 10-Page Play Slam, the Monologue Workshop, and the late-night Fringe Festival.

Authors are asked to submit through the call for plays on the website, www.theatreconference.org using the on-line form on the Play Lab link.

Guidelines:
  • One submission per author.
  • Submissions should run between 20 minutes and 2 hours.
  • They can be of any genre except musical.
  • The play should not have received a professional production; readings and amateur productions are acceptable. Authors should be interested in receiving feedback and developing their submission.

Windy City Playhouse is accepting submissions for its Monday evening play reading series. All submissions must be full-length comedies aligned with the theater’s mission of presenting contemporary, relevant, approachable plays accessible to audiences of all kinds.

Deadline: October 30, 2016
Only 10 pages from a full-length comedy may be submitted;
Playwrights must be able to travel to Chicago for reading

Please submit a PDF with the following information:
  • A one-paragraph synopsis of the play 
  • A one-paragraph statement explaining how the play fits into the theatre’s mission. 
  • The playwright’s bio 
  • Production history 
  • A one-line description of each character 
  • Playwright’s contact information

New York Theater Workshop 2017 Fellowships

For 20 years, NYTW has honed an inclusive fellowship program for emerging theatre makers with a multiplicity of perspectives. These fellowships have taken many forms, supporting playwrights, directors, designers and administrators.

In its current iteration, the 2050 Fellowship is a yearlong residency for emerging playwrights and directors. The 2050 Fellowship provides a space for experimentation, artistic and administrative support, and mentorship. The 2050 Fellows are emerging artists who, with their unique voices, give us perspective on the world in which we live; and who challenge us all to contend with this changing world.

The following materials must be submitted by 5PM on Monday, October 17th. Incomplete or improperly formatted applications will not be accepted. Review the following requirements carefully.

NYTW will accept up to six 2050 Fellows per season. These fellowships will entail a one year commitment from June to June. Playwrights and directors are eligible to apply.

NYTW’s 2050 Fellowships consists of five basic components:
Monthly fellowship meetings where fellows meet with each other and artists from the NYTW community to discuss craft, aesthetics, and artistic development
Access to rehearsal space and two opportunities to share works-in-progress with the NYTW Artistic staff and entire fellowship cohort
Mentorship from the NYTW Artistic staff and contemporary theatre artists
An invitation to participate in the artistic life of the theatre by attending staff meetings, developmental readings, dress rehearsals, and other NYTW functions
A three-day weekend retreat at the start and end of the fellowship

2050 Fellows are awarded a modest stipend and an artistic development fund to support fellowship projects, see work, research and travel.

The Downtown Urban Arts Festival (DUAF) is currently accepting staged plays that illustrate city life for its 2017 annual season to be held during April and May in downtown New York City at the Cherry Lane Theatre and Joe’s Pub at The Public Theater.

THEATER @ DUAF (15th Anniversary season) will accept 18 theatrical works (plays, musicals and solo works) with running times up to 70 minutes. Each work is performed only once during the festival. New Paradigm Theatre's Holiday Show 2016 to Accept Submissions of Short Plays

Seeking: A 25-35 minute contemporary holiday tale inspired by all or part of Charles Dickens' "A Christmas Carol," with an overall message of hope for the holiday season.

• THE WINNING SCRIPT WILL BE PERFORMED IN CONCERT- STYLE DURING THE 2016 HOLIDAY SHOW, DECEMBER 3 (7PM) AND 4 (3PM) AT FAIRFIELD THEATRE COMPANY.

• THE WINNING PLAYWRIGHT WILL SEE THEIR PLAY PERFORMED BY BROADWAY ACTORS AND OTHER PROS AND RECEIVE 2 COMPLIMENTARY TICKETS TO THE SHOW OF THEIR CHOICE.

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

• Play should be written to accommodate 3-5 adult and 1-3 child actors. While doubling and non-traditional casting is always an option, the play should be written with these logistics in mind. We encourage diversity in gender, ethnicity, and age in your work.

• Social justice is a big part of the NPT mission; we mentor in-need students alongside our Broadway and other professionals. Locally relevant issues to Fairfield County Connecticut are strongly encouraged.

• Since we typically perform in black box theatres on limited budgets, less is often more. We suggest scripts that require fewer than 10 actors and uncomplicated/limited scenery. Production value will be one step above that of a staged reading.

• Musical numbers are fine, so long as the rights are your own or public domain. We are not interested in a musical but a play with a couple insert carols is fine.

White Rabbit Productions seeks a team of 6-7 writers to create new short comic one-act plays for our 2017 Valentine’s Day Event – WHITE RABBIT SEXCAPADES, going up at The Duplex Cabaret Theatre on February 11 and 14, 2017.

1. Deadline for submission is Sunday, October 23 at 11:59 p.m. Submissions received after this time cannot be considered.

2. Writers must be local to NYC, as we will be meeting in person 3-4 times between November 1 and December 11, 2016. (Meetings will likely take place on Saturday or Sunday afternoons, but we will work around writer schedules when possible.)

3. Writers will be given further details regarding the 7 – 10 minute piece they are to write at the first team meeting. Some details will be drawn randomly from a hat.

4. While we appreciate good taste and decorum, the situations will all be very sexual in nature. Writers must be comfortable with this. The types of characters within each piece will be included in what is randomly drawn, so regardless of one’s orientation, writers should be willing to write engaging and funny one-acts for people of all types – heterosexual, homosexual, bisexual, transgender, and of all types, races and ages.

5. We will be reading the pieces amongst ourselves – and with actors – and discussing the pieces in depth. Thus, we seek open, collaborative-types who are willing to share their thoughts and opinions in helpful, supportive ways.

6. Meetings may take place in Manhattan, Brooklyn or Queens. (You will have a chance to let us know where you are willing and not willing to go.)

7. There is no fee for submissions.

8. All writers will receive one comp for him/herself, a tiny cut from every ticket sold, and a small bonus for every ticket buyer who lists his/her name upon the purchase of a ticket. (Further details will be specified upon receipt of materials and/or by special request.)

EST Marathon of One Act Plays

EST has presented the Marathon, its celebrated festival of new one-act plays, for over 30 years. It is the longest-running, most celebrated one-act play festival in the country. Playwrights presented include David Auburn*, Leslie Ayvazian*, Horton Foote*, Tina Howe*, Shirley Lauro*, Romulus Linney*, David Mamet*, Cassandra Medley*, Jacquelyn Reingold*, José Rivera*, Cori Thomas,* and John Patrick Shanley*, among many others.

Rover Dramawerks 10-Minute Play Contest

Rover Dramawerks announces our third annual 10-Minute Play Contest! We are seeking 10-minute comedies or farces to be a part of our Seventeenth Season.
  • Submissions will be accepted from September 20 to October 20.
  • Only the first 300 10-minute plays will be accepted.
  • No musicals.
  • Plays may have been produced previously but not in the DFW Metroplex.
  • Plays may not be published.
  • Playwrights may submit only one 10-minute play. Additional plays submitted by a single person will result in disqualification.
  • A cast list and brief synopsis must be included.
  • Only PDF files will be accepted.
  • Name and contact info must not appear anywhere on the script (i.e. this is a blind submission process).

Onion Man Productions seeks ten-minute plays

Onion Man Productions is accepting submission for its 2017 Summer Harvest collection of 10-minute plays. The shows will be staged at Onion Man’s theatre space in Chamblee, GA in June of 2017.

The deadline for submissions is October 31st, 2016.
  • Maximum of 2 plays per playwright
  • It should be a 10 minute play
  • Must be an original work with no prior production
  • Submissions are open to any writer although Georgia and southeastern playwrights will receive preference.
All submitted plays must be written to the following set requirements:
Either a boardroom or a breakroom.


If written for a boardroom, there will probably be some representation of a large table with chairs looking out toward the audience.
If written to the breakroom, there will probably be two to three small tables with chairs.

Some suggestions for a submitted play:
Smaller casts (prefer 2-3, 4-5 max), simple staging, strong choices (bold is good), address the question of “why this day?” What is unique about the day the play takes place? Also, the characters need to impact on each other in such a way that will require change (or possibility of change), and characters should “do” in order to reveal their motives, not just talk.

Acadia Theatre MiniFest

MiniFest is a week-long festival of one-act plays featuring limited cast sizes and scenographic demands. Every year hundreds of plays from around the world are submitted for juried evaluation. A Play Reading Committee creates a short list which is then submitted to an Executive Committee that selects four to six plays for an actor-centered staging by members of the Acadia Theatre Company.

Submission Deadline: September 30, 2016
  • Anyone may submit up to two original scripts, provided that neither has been professionally performed.
  • All script submissions must be in WORD format and be accompanied by a completed electronic application.
  • Scripts will be chosen for their dramatic quality, but also for their suitability for staging by students in our Theatre program. Scripts with limited number of characters and modest production requirements will be preferred. Running times should not exceed 30 minutes.
  • Minifest may present as many as eight plays over three consecutive nights. Each may may be presented as many as three times.
  • No recording of performances will be permitted.
  • Successful playwrights will not be offered royalties.
  • Late submissions will not be accepted.
  • All scripts must be submitted electronically in Word format. No other formats will be accepted.
  • Each playwright may submit only two (2) plays for the competition.
  • The Covering Page of each script should include:
  • the title of the play
  • the playwright's name
  • contact information for the playwright (address, telephone number & email address)
  • All subsequent pages should be numbered and should include the play's title in a running header or footer. As the jury process is anonymouse, plase do NOT include the playwright's name on these pages.
