CALL FOR FEMALE PLAYWRIGHTS
Winnipeg’s 11th Annual Festival of Plays by Women for Everyone
Sarasvàti Productions is accepting applications for their 11th annual FemFest “Bake–Off” which will take place in September 2013. For this portion of the festival we are seeking five courageous female playwrights, of varying levels of experience, to participate.
On Saturday, August 31st at 10 a.m. the five playwrights chosen for the event, will be given eight hours to write a scene anywhere from five to 10 minutes in duration. Writers will also be provided with three key “ingredients”they must incorporate into their scene. Prior to the festival, each scene will receive a few hours of direction with a team of ensemble players.
On Monday, September 16th the scenes will be performed before a live audience who will vote for the scene they would most like to see developed into a play. The following year, the winner of the 2013 Bake-Off will receive a workshop or full production of their play in FemFest 2014.
If you are a playwright looking for a deadline or a little motivation to get that first scene for your new play out of your head and onto the page, then the FemFest BakeOffs for you! All interested playwrights should send in an application.
Please include:
1. A cover letterAll applications must be received in the office by August 12th, 2013. Applications should be mailed to:
-with full contact information (mailing address, phone # and e-mail)
-expressing why you feel you should be a participant in FEMFEST’S Bake-off 2013
-detailing any production history
2. A 100 word bio of the playwright
3. A 5-10 page writing sample (Can be a scene or monologue)
