THE FOURTH ANNUAL OHIO STATE UNIVERSITY AT NEWARK NEW PLAY CONTEST

web site

RULES AND INFORMATION:

The contest is open to anyone, anywhere; plays, however, must be written in English.

If actors have memorized lines and presented the text under ANY circumstances (workshop, college production, etc.), then the script is INELIGIBLE for the contest.

If actors have given a staged reading holding scripts, that play IS eligible.

Please use a standard playwriting format.

Judging will be blind, so it is important for contestants to follow these directions EXACTLY. First, please ensure that your name does not appear on ANY page of the actual script. Second, please type your email address and other contact information on a sheet of paper, seal it in an envelope, and staple the envelope to the last page or inside cover of your script. If you wish to include a cover letter, please place this in the envelope as well. Electronic submissions are not allowed.

Plays are to be individual full-length works; a collection of short plays is not an acceptable substitute.

Please do not submit a script previously submitted to this contest, unless you have performed SIGNIFICANT revisions on it.

The contest is open as of today. The absolute deadline for submissions TO BE RECEIVED will be Friday, February 27, 2015; entries received after that date will be returned unread to entrants. Winners will be announced on or approximately July 1, 2015.

First prize is $300, second prize is $200, and third prize is $100. In addition, all prizewinners will receive an official certificate indicating their placement in the contest.

The authors of “honorable mentions” will also receive certificates.

Candidates will be notified by individual emails in ascending order: unsuccessful entries, honorable mentions, prizewinners.

All physical scripts become the property of Ohio State Newark, and will not be returned. To prevent unauthorized reproduction and stage production, at the end of the contest, all scripts will be shredded. Of course, the authors retain all publication and production rights.
